Facilitator | Wiltshire | Part-time (up to 3 days per week)

Our Recruitment Mission

Our Free Minds is a consent-based, self-directed learning community for home-educated children and young people. We offer calm, relational spaces where children are trusted to follow their own interests, learning, play, and projects — supported by attentive, respectful adults.

We are currently inviting applications for Facilitators to support our sessions.

About the Role

Facilitators work alongside children and young people as equals, offering presence, care, and practical support without directing, managing, or shaping outcomes. The role is relational, responsive, and grounded in trust, consent, and respect.

This is not a teaching role. It is a role for people who are comfortable being with children as they are, rather than trying to improve, fix, or direct them.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Helping to create a safe, welcoming, and emotionally supportive environment
  • Supporting children’s self-directed play, learning, rest, and social interaction
  • Being available for conversation, shared activity, or practical help when invited
  • Supporting children to navigate relationships and emotions in line with Our Free Minds’ values
  • Working collaboratively with other facilitators and the wider team
  • Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and contributing to a culture of shared care

Who We’re Looking For

We are less interested in formal qualifications and more interested in who you are and how you show up.

You might be someone who:

  • Enjoys spending time with children and teenagers as people
  • Is curious, reflective, and open to ongoing learning
  • Can hold warm, clear boundaries without being authoritarian
  • Is comfortable with uncertainty and child-led days
  • Values play, wellbeing, and relational safety
  • Is able to commit two to three days per week, with pay offered above the National Minimum Wage

Experience with children or young people is welcome, but there is no single background we are looking for.

Practical Details

  • Up to 3 sessions per week (as agreed)
  • Working hours are agreed in advance and respected
  • Regular supervision and reflective support are built into the role

Safeguarding

Our Free Minds is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This role is subject to safer recruitment procedures, including enhanced DBS clearance, references, and suitability checks.

How to Apply

We welcome applications from people whose lived experiences, perspectives, or identities are underrepresented in educational and community spaces.

Our Free Minds values curiosity, consent, trust, and care — for children and for adults alike.
